TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY RACE REPORT
TALLADEGA, Ala. (May 5, 2012) – Drivers and teams alike know that at Talladega Superspeedway, it isn’t a matter of “if’ but ‘when’ the “Big One” will occur. Fortunately, Justin Allgaier and his Brandt Racing team were patient and thoughtful during the Aaron’s 312, dodging the inevitable big wreck which occurred after the field took their first of two green-white-checkered finish attempts. With the help of spotter Eddie D’Hondt, Allgaier avoided the multi-car accident which happened as the field came out of turn two at the 2.66-mile superspeedway on lap 117, which was meant to be the conclusion of the 312-mile race. After a red-flag period of nearly 20 minutes, Allgaier was poised for what was hopefully the team’s first win of 2012. Unfortunately, he lost his drafting help as the white flag waved and Allgaier was forced to settle for an eighth-place finish, his fourth top-10 of the season. The finish keeps Allgaier in seventh spot in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) point standings.
